Expanding Supportive Recovery

Expanding Supportive Recovery

Expanding Supportive Recovery addresses the need to increase available 2nd stage supportive recovery facilities enabling men to pursue a drug free life while going to school or working within a structured environment. This campaign will result in another 10 bed quality, long-term recovery facility for Surrey and the province.

The need specifically for 2nd Stage Supportive Recovery arises due to the length of time required for recovery. Each person must find the combination of healing methods that works for them, but there is no magic pill. We know from our experience that the healing process is long, and requires patience and dedication. Any large breakthrough requires an integration in to the person’s life, which can take years. The right recipe of inner work and environmental conditions must be in place.

Individuals progress through drug addiction treatment at various rates, so there is no predetermined length of treatment. However, research has shown unequivocally that good outcomes are contingent on adequate treatment length. Generally, for residential or outpatient treatment, participation for less than 90 days is of limited effectiveness, and treatment lasting significantly longer is recommended for maintaining positive outcomes. People can and do recover from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, especially when the right treatments, services and supports are available. These services can include early identification and intervention, peer support, mutual aid, outreach and engagement, harm reduction, specialized treatment, relapse prevention and continuing care – all of which are available through the Realistic Success Recovery Society.
